Green-headed Ant

This ant is highly feared by anyone who has ever been bitten by it. The bite hurts more than a wasp sting. It can cause swellings and the pain can last from an hour to a day or two. It is a very common, big ant that can ruin so many BBQ's when sitting in the lawn. It looks black and the blue shimmer is normally unnoticed. Normally, they don't bite unless squashed or if their nests underground are disturbed.
