Fire-tailed Resin Bee
Size about 12mm. Found on private property in suburban Southwestern Brisbane location. A lot of these bees were busy flying into holes in a dead tree that looked like Swiss cheese. Some photos show that there were also ants in these holes. Additionally, the biggest wasp I have ever seen was roaming this area, the Yellow-footed Longtail Wasp. But also a smaller, black wasp was making the place wasp busy. It remains to be seen what the relationships actually is, who parasites whom. The Resin bee has a bright orange abdomen, black head.
