Orange-backed Halticid Bee
This species is about 10mm in size. It was very active on our flowering coriander. Its back is orange-red, which I took as the excuse to create an English name. Its belly was black. Most outsanding features are the strange shape of its wings that have like a double-bend in them. I could find this feature in a few Lasioglossum and Sphecodes species. Lasioglossum melbournense is certainly not a 100% match and there are not enough photos of a living animal to compare. Lasioglossum excultum seems rather close too, but of course, a proper ID would need some anatomical analysis. Second feature are its bulbous hind legs that seem to collect pollen. The head is typical, but I could not find a match for its golden crown hair and thorax hair. So, any hints are very welcome.
