Bark Beetle
Size 2mm. This gallery contains various species in the Scolytinae group. Based on photos it is probably impossible to identify these reliably. There are a few hundred species in Australia that all seem to look similar if not identical to me. We have some activity in our garden, mainly around out coffee bush and wood stack where they seem to be an important decomposer. Their holes in the wood are readily visited by various wasp species, on of them even using them as a nisting place. The animals being flighted and tiny, they are easy to miss and even harder to photograph.
