Black-tailed Lycid Beetle
Lycid Beetles seem to come in various colour variations. The version with the black tail seems common. I matched it to a Museum syntype for the abdominal colouration. Whether the anatomy matches would be more important, is difficult to judge though. http://www.brisbaneinsects.com.au has this species as Large Eyes Lycid Beetle. My picture is poor, was taken under attack by mosquitos. The beetle was tucked to the underside of a leaf, on a back-killing height level. Surely, I will be able to document more of this type of Lyrid beetle. GBIF and ALA differ in terms of taxonomy. I follow ALA. That is an erosion of my policy to follow GBIF normally. GBIF has probably a better political leverage. For identification purposes they recently took a step back while taking a few steps forward. Unfortunately, it was an essential feature that is now lacking in GBIF which ALA still provides.
