Blue Tufted Longicorn Beetle
Size 30mm. A magnificent creature. I was stunned by its beauty in the field. I also believe that it is a rarely documented or even a new species. I am confident that it belongs into the Rhagiomorphini group. It is similar but definitely different to Tropis roei which is nicely documented at https://www.biodiversitylibrary.org/item/48195#page/396/mode/1up (accessed 8/10/2017) with a description as Stenoderus roei on page 17 and a drawing at the very end past page 106. I also tried to find out what happened to Stenoderus pulcher described on the following page, definitely collected in Australia and stored in an Australian museum but not even listed as a taxon, let alone in synonymy. The most outstanding feature of the animal are definitely the blueish antennae tufts and same coloured back of its wings. The elytra is orange as if to mimick a lycid beetle. Thorax is black. Antennae are long elbowed near the base, tuft in the middle. Legs are long and clawed, tarsi covered in creamy colour on the back. Legs are not all black, but some are orange, especially the femur.
