Harlequin Ladybird

Size 7mm. Rather large lady beetle. It was found in Switzerland at altitude. It is a deliberately introduced species to fight aphids in greenhouses. As history has taught over and over again, such introduction can and some will definitely go totally wrong. This aggressive lady beetle is large and reproduces well, takes over habitats from native lady beetles. In addition, they seem to cause considerable damage to grapes, therefore feared in plantations.
