Large Dark Spotted Weevil
Size 25mm. This is one of the largest weevils I have ever seen. It was found motionless on a large plant in the banana group, looking like frozen in motion with one leg up as if to move. Later it moved the leg back and stayed still. Surprisingly, I could not find a picture match anywhere. The best match I found was an animal in the Mecinus genus. The animal has elbowed antennae originating in the middle of the long, downwards bent snout. It catches the eye that the tips of the antennae are creamish-white. The eyes on a short head point forward. The back of the thorax is domiated by a large black marking. The abdomen looks dark brown with two large black patterns. The wings don't cover the abdomen all the way. Legs are large. The thighs are quite slim though.
