Long-snouted Callistemon Weevil
Body size 2.5mm. This small weevil was photographed on a callistemon plant, proudly presenting on a nut case shell and showing a beautiful profile. Its snout is very long compared to its body. The two antennae don't have elbows, are quite hairy and roughly segmented. They start at the base of the snout and are often stretched out in a triangle with the snout, all being of equal length. The snout is hairy and wide at the front, slightly bent. The eyes are round, positioned laterally. Body is brownish-red and scaly. Its legs look quite special, too, being thin in certain parts, but thick and hairy in others. I could not find any matches anywhere and don't believe that there are many (if any) records of it. (My first time, that I actively used ALA again after their horrific changes to their website. Seems to be the Australian way to destroy whatever works and bring in political friends who have little clue or concerns about other users and uses. After all, it is only the job of the public to help and fund, not to be the main clients. The biggest joke is that ALA even self-celebrates and sells the changes as being a great step forward. Maybe I have not looked closely enough. We need a public biodatabase and taxonomic reference run by the public under exclusion of politicians/scientists and other fame-striving crooks.)
