Orange-black-necked Lycid Beetle
Size about 11mm. Single specimen found in dense rainforest habitat. This species looks similar to an already documented Lycid bug. However, it differs in the colouration of its neck. This is an excellent match to ALA picture of type species (ALA has renamed it without any hint on the reasons and without GBIF following suit.) Update 2/7/2017: Size about 12mm. I matched this species to http://biocache.ala.org.au/occurrences/f4ab0c67-d8cd-4f43-981b-f2199b98e8c4, Metriorrhynchus dilatipes. Someone obviously moved this taxon on ALA, but it can not be traced to anything any longer. It could be in the genus Trichalus or Porrostoma. GBIF still accepts Metriorrhynchus dilatipes. Trichalus ampliatus shows a similar colouration of its back, but the legs look rather slim, not exactly dilated. The second occurrence record is from Brisbane, former pastural land with loose dry forest patches.
