Rice Weevil
Rather small weevil. This is one of the most common pest weevils in Queensland as far as I read. It attacks grain, multiplies quickly. Obviously, this weevil is commonly found around our house without us having any issues. The first animal I found in 2016 was half-dead and missing parts of its body while still alive. The second individual was found - hardly discernible from the ants - on our dragon fruit. It was quite active, bumping into most other ants, the small ones but also the large rattler ants. I assume the small eyes don't allow it to see very well. It is rare that I am so sure about an identification of a weevil. The general appearance but mainly the four lighter patches on its abdomen, almost forming a cross are a give-away for this species. It has a long snout, with elbowed antennae that end in a whitish tip.
