Six-spotted Weevil
Size 2.5mm. This weevil was found in our garden on our grape vine. It shows six whitish-creamy spots on a brown elytra. The elytra is slightly shorter than its abdomen, well-formed and rounded at the end. Snout is relatively short but easily recogniseable. It has the typical chanell for the antennae. Legs are long, mainly the front one. Claws surprise with clear colours and unusual shape. Its shoulders are the same whitish-cream colour as the spots, a wide area that extends towards its head, also continued on its well-nourished (our poor grapes!) belly. Compound eyes are pointed forward. Taxonomically, I could not find a match based on form and colour, certainly not for Brisbane where it was found. It could be a colour morph of a different, well-known species The animal was released after a short photo session (animal was not touched or manipulated, but could crawl freely on a vine leaf and copy paper) inside the house. (Luckily), I have not observed the animal to fly.
