Clicking Ambertail
Size 30mm. This cicada was found on a camp site in Southern Queensland near the Great Dividing Range. It clung to a white cloth wall of a large tent in daylight. It seemed not shy and did not move despite people and dogs passing constantly. I matched the specimen to http://dr-pop.net/485.htm but could be totally wrong. When taking the photo I had forgotten that cicada ID is normally based on the top view and the only photo taken from that angle is slightly out of focus. It is a beautiful animal, with orange red markings and a long abdomen. The rim of the wings are brownish red. Its venation seems straightforward and transparent throughout.
