Stripe-head Wheat Bug
Small animal and I am not quite sure if the large specimen was an adult rather than a nymph. Some individuals were 1.5mm, others up to 3mm. They came out and tried to hide in a small hole in our lawn. It was found when I was weeding. It is hard to identify animals this small because chances are that they are a nymph stadium and there are not many photos to compare with. http://bugguide.net/node/view/661720/bgimage is a pretty good match and a New Zealand site also identified a similar species as Nysius. The animal certainly reminds of a seed bug or a shield bug. I love the red colours, the dots and stripes. Let me know if you have a better idea of an ID.
