Coastal Browntail Moth

Size 28mm. This caterpillar was found running on a fallen log. It seemed disoriented and in a hurry. It shows two red spots at the back, a yellow spot leading into a middorsal yellow line near its head. The long hair arise from knobby bits that are spotted. Overall appearance is black. Front hair are orange, similar to the knobs. There are three rows of orange front legs. Head is large and hair-free. From the top the caterpillar almost looks square, with beautiful symmetry in its hair and pustules.
