Lichen Tiger Moth
You may only be able to see the remains of the moth. However, its spectacular architectonic achievement is worth having it displayed here. Some Tiger Moths obviously build a basket or cage style cocoon out of the caterpillars' long hair, stitching it together carefully and eventually suspending themselves in the middle. The photo shows that some other arthropods admire this unusual construction. I only found the spider examining the photo at a later stage. The ant or wasp inside the cage also confused my identification. It looked like it was trapped, walking back and forth. The best resources I found: https://bugtracks.wordpress.com/2011/03/29/square-mesh-cocoon-mystery-solved/ (obviously one of our local biodiversity heroes involved in solving the mystery). There is also a more formal publication about it: http://lkcnhm.nus.edu.sg/nis/bulletin2010/2010nis175-181.pdf (On a sidenote: Pinterest is such an annoying resource for biodiversity investigations. Most photos are stolen, fake/manipulated. Hardly ever do the photos point to a legit source. To make matters worse, search engines seem to index such dead ends more readily than valuable resources). Our pupa basket was found vertically attached to a tree at about 1 to 1.40m above ground. (One photo is turned to make viewing easier). The spider with the tentative pupa remains were located at the bottom. Of course, I'll try to assign a caterpillar and the moth to this gallery at some stage. Update 31/1/2017: Yesterday, I ventured out trying to find the basket again. It was gone and there was no sign of it. Checking all trees nearby I found what looks like the caterpillar that donates its bristles to the construction. Next to it was the egg mass of some Bee Killer Assassin Bug. And a few centimetres further again, there was another basket. It was much smaller, maybe 20 to 30mm. It had the chrysalis still inside although it was empty. The moth had obviously not taken the exit door flaps but gone right through the wall. Also, the pupae seems not to be suspended.
