Tiger Wasp Moth
Size about 19mm. Found during the day in rainforest habitat at altitude. It was resting on an open bush but flew away when approached. It looks bright orange on black. The blue colour came out in the pictures. While I am quite sure about the genus, the species name is tentative, based on a historic drawing of a female. This species is also commonly identified as Eressa angustipenna, a sister genus. Frankly, I have no idea what the difference should be. Update 9/4/2017: Yesterday, there were hundreds of these animals roaming the bush. I do realise that the animals presented in this gallery belong to mor than one species. I'll add more along the way, until I know more about distinguishing features. So, this has become a container for similar looking moths with orange/yellow and black colours.
