Wattle Notodontid Moth
Caterpillar size 50mm. It was happily munching on a three metre bush, with no other caterpillars nearby. What a beauty. First, it fooled me, into believing the raised, bulky tail was its head. But you can clearly see its head and mouth on the other side. This species obviously has quite an amazing display when disturbed. I thought the colours and shape were already breath taking. Its orange brown base colour, shows many patches of white, red and blue, especially on its tail. It also has black spikes/protrusions. In the middle there is an extra set of red pustules.
