Grill-roast Cockroach
Size about 35mm. This cockroach certainly likes dark places. It didn't appreciate when I turned on the light, so my camera could focus. I reckon this animal knew that after a long dry and scorching hot week there would be rain and was seeking shelter in the house. I looked through many picture representations. I don't think it is very well documented. I am pretty sure that it is the same species as http://www.bowerbird.org.au/observations/60400 (head might be ducked away) which was found only a few kilometres away. It remained unidentified. Hence, I won't try to do better than experts. The cockroach has a brown overall colour, certainly appears very dark without light. Its gait was quite unusual. Its back looks bent, like a hunchback, but is beautifully formed with large scales, but no wings. The backwards sloping abdomen looks like a BBQ grill plate. The spines and reproductive organs at the back seem quite large. Of course, the legs are spikey, too. The head is elegantly rounded with large eyes.
