Big-eye Shimmering-green Fly
Size about 8mm. The fly was sitting on leaf of a big Szygium tree at about 2 metres. It did not move and was swaying in the wind. On the next leaf a gnat or mosquito was doing exactly the same. They did not move at all by themselves even when I was close. I quickly looked into the identification of this species. It could be along the lines of Pipunculidae but that is totally speculative at the moment since I have not seen a matching picture anywhere. I don't think it will be an easy one despite its big red eyes, its big head, its green thorax and yellow abdomen. The wing structure shows in one picture taken from above. There is some hair on its thorax which I am not sure could be a parasite or a fungal infection rather than belong to the animal. Also have a look at its fancy (did I say wonky?) legs.
