Boatman Fly

Size about 10mm. Is wandering on ground with wings spread open. Quite distinct abdomen and waist. It looked like it was looking for a spot on the ground to lay eggs. It even stayed in one spot on the ground for a few moments. Love the distribution information on GBIF: Australia (excluding Tasmania) and California. The fly I published under Crested Golden-waisted Fly looks similar, but also shows a few differences (veins and colouration in wings, dorsum segmentation and pattern etc.). I might merge the two galleries if I'll get more evidence that they are the same.
