Common Yellow Robber Fly
Size about 18mm. Found near Mount Tamborine in QLD. The animal was resting in relatively dense forest near a dried up creek. Update 30/8/2017: One individual seems to have been hanging around in our garden for a while. Everytime I got my camera, it was gone. Until this morning! I managed to capture an individual resting on our fence. I am not totally sure about its ID. It seemed more like 30mm in size. It has amazing tarsi with mean looking hooks. The tail looks a bit confusing to me but surely it makes sense for some experts.
