Erratic Black Fly

Size 8mm. Found on Beech tree leaves, scouring in an extremely agitated way, front legs forward in a swooping motion and moving like a beetle. Although the animal looks quite characteristic with its black and white banded legs, big eyes, it was almost impossible to find picture representations. Surely, this fly is quite common. It was found at altitude next to a mountain creek.
