Green-Brown Long Legged Fly
Size about 7mm. Small, long legged fly found on a decorative grass next to a swimming pool in suburban Brisbane with diverse vegetation including tall Eucalypt trees. At the moment, my identification down to species level is highly speculative. But it serves me as a hint to keep narrowing it down and also to have a container taxon in case I find this beautiful fly again. They are just so hard to photograph. I always feel like my childhood GP, trying to divert the patient, and go for the shot in an unexpected moment. The rapid response of this animal is just too fast and every photo session comes with lots of empty frames and the animal only halfway in the photo. Lucky, most Dolichopodidae are not very shy, but are quite persistent, coming back to the same spot a few times.
