Green-bellied Soldier Fly
Quite a large fly that is suddenly quite common. About 12mm in length. Not very shy, sunbasking on green leaves (different plants) while getting photographed. Odontomyia is a tentative identification based on ALA. However, surely there are mis-identifications or representations of completely different animals listed under this taxon. This fly has a bronze thorax. The top of the abdomen is very dark or black, while its belly is shiny green. The big lateral eyes are not touching but are separated by a wide gap. Its lip is black and protruding. Update 29/4/2017: I am convinced that this fly is misrepresented and belongs into a different taxon. I don't think it is possible that the head looks completely different to the type specimens and still be the same species. Close, closer than other representations in the ALA database.
