Slender Bee Fly
Size about 8mm. Photographed on Gardenia flower. I loved the background so much that I persisted despite strong winds and hardly a still moment. This fly is dark in dark. Only the eyes are (darkish) red. Update 5/11/2016: Actually, I had photographed this species before. So, I added them. Since I stumbled over an identification, I change the name from Brown Long-lipped Fly into Slender Bee Fly. Update 8/3/2017: This fly has become an old faithful, one of the most common and easy to photograph flies in our garden. In flight, the fly behaves like a mosquito, flying up and down very nervously before landing. But most of the time, it is resting and seems to be stalking prey.
