Various Moth Flies
Very small animal, about 1-2mm. Another stunning example how experts can surprise me. What an effort QuestaGame went through for me. They were faster in classifying than I had been uploading the species. They pointed out that this specimen is in the family of Moth Flies. Just when I was ready and waiting for Lightroom to upload, I got notice that further expertise has come in from the UK. Imagine, a few hours into my first sighting of this species/taxonomic group and someone from overseas looks into it. I am still not 100% sure if and how to quote QuestaGame experts. The feedback was that this is an extremely difficult family even in temperate climate with only a few experts and not many references to consult. According to that expert, in the tropics there might be a lot more Moth Flies, many of them unidentified, some maybe wrongly classified etc. The expert also pointed out that mainly male Moth Flies seem to have a behavioural posture with its wings close to the body which makes identification easier when photographed from the front. Thank you so much! Of course, as always, I hope to encounter that species again and improve on the photography. I will still call this animal a Moth Fly but am happy to change any time, receive and publish feedback here.
