Greenhouse Camel Cricket
Size about 40mm or even bigger with its long legs. This animal was found inside a Rainforest Conservation House. Someone came up to me with a rolled newspaper in his hands, telling me that I could photograph a spider before he killed it. While photographing the cricket, a hysterical woman objected my identification and insisted that it was a jumping spider. While I was sure it was a cricket of some sort, I was told that it might be a King Cricket based on the white knees. Those - however - can not be observed. All legs are banded. Antennae are extremely long. All legs are long and quite thin. The long back legs, mainly the thighs, show a radiating pattern. While I am happy to learn the real identity of this cricket, I am tempted to believe that this is actually Diestrammena asynamora or a close relative, a Cave Cricket at home in Asia and presently studied in the USA http://www.yourwildlife.org/2013/09/citizen-scientists-document-the-spread-of-giant-cricket-basement-to-basement/). It roams inside houses and feeds of dead insects. The only issue: it does not occur in Australia. So, please, don't copy my lay identification. Let me know if you can provide a better identification (but remember: it is not a spider!).
