Full-armored Earwig
Size 20mm. Found under a log in our garden. For identification purposes it would sometimes help to have some basic knowledge. I managed to narrow it down to Earwigs and learned a little bit about basic differences to Rove Beetles (check it out on my webpage). This specimen has overlapping scales all over its body. There is no visible thorax and abdomen separation. The tweezers at the back are not very long but distinct tools without hair. Antennae are long with lots of small segments. Mouth and mandibles are firmly protruding. Legs are long with whitish thighs. Some Labidura species were the only animals that showed continuous armour on its back. There are only two species documented in Australia, none of which match.
