Bottlebrush Sawfly
Size about 18mm. It was crawling around on a native bush. I had assumed that it was a wasp, but think it is a sawfly. It has no visible waist but a orange-red belt. Lots of yellow markings. Quite distinct antennae. It looks like it has been parasited. I am not sure if the yellow hump at the very back belongs to the animal, but the yellow material oozing out seems to be foreign. Update 18/2/2017: I renamed this species from Red-belted Sawfly, I think I made up the name myself. I found the result of what had been oozing out, two larvae, found in the same spot. The English name I got from http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/none/cinctus.html. The native bush is actually a Callistemon. Pictures of the adult wasp (sawfly) was photographed 31/10/2016. I am not sure if 3.5 months to reach that stage is necessary or if the larvae are from a recent egg desposit. I have not spotted any sawflies lately.
