Hiding Yellow Ichneumon Wasp
Size about 9mm. It was found in high grass near flowering Lantana, mowed grass and some dry forest with a creek. The species seems to have a long slim waist, vase shaped abdomen, dark with bright bands that go all around it. Head and body are black. Eyes are bordered white inwards. There is also a yellow patch on the back of its thorax. Legs are long and spikey, uniformly orange. The ovipostor is very short, almost not existant. Wings have a small dark patch, and become wider towards the outer side. I did not find a perfect match for this species. Most of the pattern and colour match with some ALA and Bowerbird representations of Xanthocryptus. I named the species after the genus (Xantho normally standing for yellow) and might need to change it once I get a better idea of the characteristics of this taxonomic group.
