Long-legged Ichneumon Wasp
Size 12mm. This wasp was found hunting on a gum tree. It checked for food under bark using its antennae to guide it. This species is similar to what I call Yellow Fittings Wasp. It shows very similar physiology, but the thorax and abdomen are black on top. Its mouth is yellow, too. The hind legs are massive, uniformly orange with a spur. While the thorax is furry black and pustulose, the abdomen is shiny black, beginning with a white segment that turns into black. The base of the long and upwards curved stinger was clearly shiny orange-red. Its waist is long with a bend. One segment on the abdomen behind the waist is lightly pigmented all around, making it look banded.
