Yellow Fittings Wasp
Size 13mm. This wasp was sitting on a leaf or our grape vine. It only moved its antennae, up and down, but otherwise was quite patient during the photo session. I think it might belong into the superfamily Ichneumonoidea. Normally, I would put it within the Braconidae family. I have not properly searched for an identification yet. The variety of wasps that look similar seems endless. I call it Yellow Fittings Wasp for its yellow bases to the antennae but also all its legs, even the wings and the underside of the abdomen. The antennae are uniformly black and quite long. The orange abdomen shows dark dorsal bands. Thorax is black and the waist is long and slim, yellow on the underside, black at the top. The stinger is bent upwards, is of a decent size, clearly visible but not long. It seems to have the heartshaped end that can be observed in other wasps. Hind legs are longer than the front legs, similar orange to the abdomen with black joints. The two front legs are bright orange, ending in the bright yellow 'fittings'.
