Banded Leg Wolf Spider
Size 14mm including legs. Two individuals were found when tidying up leaf litter in the back of our garden. One was carrying a large white egg. I am confident that the spider belongs to Lycosidae, maybe some species in the Artoria genus. I matched it to http://findaspider.org.au/find/spiders/245.htm (accessed 5/9/2017). The abdomen seems to be smaller than the thorax. Legs are muscular, held close to the body, but actually not short. They are banded, in reddish-brownish-black tones. The whole animal is dark. It has a narrow creamy stripe along its thorax, but none on its abdomen. The eyes are quite large and well distributed. The palps look like they have a triton at its end or three toes. Fangs are large. The spider can move fast, is quite shy and likes to hide. I made up the name myself and am happy to change it should I find a proper match and a common English name for it.
