Brown Huntsman Spider
Large spider, very fast. It is an iconic species that every Australian seems to know. Taxonomically, it is noteworthy that my ID is likely to be wrong. http://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=949 calls it Heteropoda juglans or Brisbane Huntsman. They point out that Heteropoda cervina is a common misidentification based on a publication. ALA has both taxa. In my opinion, ALA mixes the picture representations randomly between the two. Recently, I started following http://www.arachne.org in their taxonomy if it is backed with matching records. Unfortunately, I can not find Heteropoda cervina in their records yet. Also, I don't think these experts share in ALA or other freely available databases which makes a consensus and the eradication of mistakes only harder (while of course it is understandable in terms of copyrights, commercial aspects etc.). So, for the moment, I leave this taxon as Brown Huntsman Spider and use it as a container for possibly different but similar species.
