Common Net-casting Spider
Size about 130mm. This is one of the largest spiders I have ever seen. It is also one of the best camouflaged ones. It is definitely a stick mimicking spider. It positioned itself in a bush in proximity of some pine. The fallen long needles are branched. The spider holds its legs so it looks like a splinted needle. It refused to look up into my camera but has large frontal eyes that are similar to jumping spider eyes. Its jaws or palps are huge and host a disc that is another feature I have never seen (except in some yummy sweet dessert). Body size is maybe 20 to 30mm. Its head looks velvety. The latin name means soft red/brown.
