Flower Mimicking Lynx Spider
This spider is a common sight. It might belong to Oxyopes variabilis. However, I prefer to separate it despite some similarities. It is quite small. Individuals range from about 4 mm to 9 mm. They all look very similar and are normally encountered in that very typical attack position. It definitely mimicks the flower of our native bush that it is its home. The black bands on its femur and tibia are forming are meeting and form a straight pattern through the animal when it folds it legs like a harmonica. The hind legs are spread strait back and outwards to give the animal more flower appeal. Its colouration is irregular, the whole body covered with a dense fur.
