Two-spined Spider
Size 8mm. It took me a while to find one of the 'most attractive and most photographed spiders' of Australia. Indeed it is a beauty. I found it in mixed habitat where some open grassland meets some open woodland. It was hanging on a thread on a large leaved tree at about shoulder height. It was only a blob, did only move to avoid me. It then busily retrieved a thread like a trapeze artist, lifting itself sidewards onto the next leaf. There is not much description needed for this spider. It looks like a comic with pointy white ears that have colour on the back. Its abdomen is yellow-white, shows a vertical pattern that is densely covered in yellow hair. Eyes are protruding on a small head. The animal seems to keep its legs close to the head. Its legs are quite fine, probably not suitable to hold larger prey.
