Wrap-around Spider
Wow! Big spider, about 16mm and I could hardly see it. I assume it was right under my nose for quite some time. It did its name all honour, being wrapped around a branch of our lemon tree. Actually, it was found at the spot that I have been checking almost every day. Nature is just a surprise and never ceases to produce more and more unbelievable life forms the more you look. Of course, I had no idea what it was. When I first saw it, I was instantly determined to call it Turtle Spider. It wears a carapace on top of its body. Actually, it made me homesick for my underwater research focus for so many years and some of my faithful friends in the superfamily Umbraculoidea. When I managed to find the identification, I found an English name that seems pretty suitable, too and does not mislead. This spider actually totally wrapped around that twig 5mm in diameter. It made its body so flat that I thought it was some scarring or scaling.
