Chinamanfish
Very large fish not often seen at the Seaway. It was quite shy and stayed away from me. It has very long sailfin or threadfins on its back. Body is yellow-reddish with blue longitudinal stripes. Australian holotype was named Paradicichthys venenatus Whitley, 1930. However, there seem to be a few older descriptions of this species. Its species name, it got from Mesoprion nematophorus Bleeker, 1860. It is a mystery to me why Symphorus taeniolatus Günther, 1872 defined its final genus resting place, how and why it does not simply belong to Lutjanus where most Mesoprion species went. Günther must have found some differences.
