Berserker Range Banded Snail
Size about 50mm. Found in dry (recently flooded) eucalypt area near mangrove wetland. The shell was damaged and the animal obviously gone. I think it is what ALA has as Figuladra appendiulata based on the type specimen representation (Helix thatcheri). It shows large dark bands and finer lines along the shell. This would be the Southernmost record of this species. Therefore the identification needs to be taken with care. I also found a second large pulmonate shell that lack the lines but could be a morph. It is highly disturbing that http://www.molluscabase.org does not even list the taxon nor its basionym. Taxonomy in these days is played and lost in politics - harvest of decades of toxic science 'education'. Science seems to be a stop and go, all for the sake of becoming heroes without doing much for it (except maybe conspire against the ones doing something).
